And now…..about Mama Meg:
So tell a little bit about yourself and how you got started in your current business.
I have been working in retail since I was 16 years old. I found myself at my current job missing my children terribly everyday. Dropping them off at the sitter every Monday morning killed me. I was looking for a way to stay home with them. My friend showed me this website… Etsy and I became obsessed! I was on there every day at work looking at all of these creative things people were making. Growing up I dabbled in drawing, painting and I always loved to scrapbook. One day when I was surfing on Etsy I found this teddy bear beanie and thought it would look adorable on my daughter. So I bought the crochet pattern for it and went to the craft store on the way home from work. My grandma had taught me to crochet when I was in middle school. I watched a bunch of videos online and re-taught myself. It just kinda snowballed from there. Never did I think that I was actually going to get what I wanted! Finally after ten years of searching for what I wanted to do with my life I found something that makes me really happy and is so rewarding plus I get to be the kind of mom I want to be!

How do you stay organized, and also balance work and family?
I have a clipboard case that I keep all of my orders in and every day I look through my orders to make sure that I am not missing something. Also tons of calendars and lists help too! Balancing work and family is a little hard for me. Once I start a project it consumes me! My husband is very good at giving me time to work.
What would you say has been the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome thus far?
My biggest problem is knowing when to say “no”. I always want to make people happy and I want to keep my customers coming back for more.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently now that you know better?
I have learned to plan FAR in the future. Last Easter gave me a taste of what the upcoming holiday season is going to be like. I have a plan this time and I am going to set limits so that way I won’t be as stressed out!
Can you offer three pieces of advice to anyone just getting started in their own business?
You can only suceed if you try. Owning your own business is something you have to work at everyday and you don’t really get a day off. You have to love what you do!
